This fixes all defects according to MISRA Rule 3.1: "The character sequences /* and // shall not be used within a comment". This affects all URLs in comments, so they have been removed: - The link in `sdei_state.c` can also be found in the documentation file `docs/sdei.rst`. - The bug that the file `io_fip.c` talks about doesn't affect the currently supported version of GCC, so it doesn't make sense to keep the comment. Note that the version of GCC officially supported is the one that comes with Linaro Release 17.10, which is GCC 6.2. - The link in `tzc400.c` was broken, and it didn't correctly direct to the Technical Reference Manual it should. The link has been replaced by the title of the document, which is more convenient when looking for the document. The block operations were trying to optimize the number of memory copies, and it tried to use directly the buffer supplied by the user to them. This was a mistake because it created too many corner cases: 1- It was possible to generate unaligned operations to unaligned buffers. Drivers that were using DMA transfer failed in that case. 2- It was possible to generate read operations with sizes that weren't a multiple of the block size. Some low level drivers assumed that condition and they calculated the number of blocks dividing the number of bytes by the size of the block, without considering the remaining bytes. 3- The block_* operations didn't control the number of bytes actually copied to memory, because the low level drivers were writing directly to the user buffer. This patch rewrite block_read and block_write to use always the device buffer, which the platform ensures that has the correct aligment and the correct size. The memmap IO driver doesn't perform bounds check when reading, writing, or seeking. The onus to vet parameters is on the caller, and this patch asserts that: - non-negative size is specified for for backing memory; - valid parameters are passed into the driver for read, write and seek operations. Replace all use of memset by zeromem when zeroing moderately-sized structure by applying the following transformation: memset(x, 0, sizeof(x)) => zeromem(x, sizeof(x)) As the Trusted Firmware is compiled with -ffreestanding, it forbids the compiler from using __builtin_memset and forces it to generate calls to the slow memset implementation. Zeromem is a near drop in replacement for this use case, with a more efficient implementation on both AArch32 and AArch64. FIP is accessed as memory-mapped type. eMMC is block device type. In order to support FIP based on eMMC, add the new io_block layer. io_block always access eMMC device as block size. And it'll only copy the required data into buffer in io_block driver. So preparing an temporary buffer is required. The return value from the SYS_WRITE semihosting operation is 0 if the call is successful or the number of bytes not written, if there is an error. The implementation of the write function in the semihosting driver treats the return value as the number of bytes written, which is wrong. This patch fixes it. The Trusted firmware code identifies BL images by name. The platform port defines a name for each image e.g. the IO framework uses this mechanism in the platform function plat_get_image_source(). For a given image name, it returns the handle to the image file which involves comparing images names. In addition, if the image is packaged in a FIP, a name comparison is required to find the UUID for the image. This method is not optimal. This patch changes the interface between the generic and platform code with regard to identifying images. The platform port must now allocate a unique number (ID) for every image. The generic code will use the image ID instead of the name to access its attributes. As a result, the plat_get_image_source() function now takes an image ID as an input parameter. The organisation of data structures within the IO framework has been rationalised to use an image ID as an index into an array which contains attributes of the image such as UUID and name. This prevents the name comparisons. A new type 'io_uuid_spec_t' has been introduced in the IO framework to specify images identified by UUID (i.e. when the image is contained in a FIP file). There is no longer need to maintain a look-up table [iname_name --> uuid] in the io_fip driver code. Because image names are no longer mandatory in the platform port, the debug messages in the generic code will show the image identifier instead of the file name. The platforms that support semihosting to load images (i.e. FVP) must provide the file names as definitions private to the platform. The ARM platform ports and documentation have been updated accordingly. All ARM platforms reuse the image IDs defined in the platform common code. These IDs will be used to access other attributes of an image in subsequent patches. IMPORTANT: applying this patch breaks compatibility for platforms that use TF BL1 or BL2 images or the image loading code. The platform port must be updated to match the new interface. Previously, platform.h contained many declarations and definitions used for different purposes. This file has been split so that: * Platform definitions used by common code that must be defined by the platform are now in platform_def.h. The exact include path is exported through $PLAT_INCLUDES in the platform makefile. * Platform definitions specific to the FVP platform are now in /plat/fvp/fvp_def.h. * Platform API declarations specific to the FVP platform are now in /plat/fvp/fvp_private.h. * The remaining platform API declarations that must be ported by each platform are still in platform.h but this file has been moved to /include/plat/common since this can be shared by all platforms. The generic image loading and IO FIP code no longer forces the platform to create BL3-2 (Secure-EL1 Payload) specific definitions. The BL3-2 loading code in bl2/bl2main.c is wrapped by a #ifdef BL32_BASE blocks, allowing the BL3-2 definitions to be optional. Similarly for the name_uuid array defintion in drivers/io/io_fip.c. Also update the porting guide to reflect this change. The BL3-2 platform definitions remain non-configurably present in the FVP port. Update code base to remove variables from the .data section, mainly by using const static data where possible and adding the const specifier as required. Most changes are to the IO subsystem, including the framework APIs. The FVP power management code is also affected. Delay initialization of the global static variable, next_image_type in bl31_main.c, until it is realy needed. Doing this moves the variable from the .data to the .bss section. Also review the IO interface for inconsistencies, using uintptr_t where possible instead of void *. Add tag names to all unnamed structs in header files. This allows forward declaration of structs, which is necessary to reduce header file nesting (to be implemented in a subsequent commit). Also change the typedef names across the codebase to use the _t suffix to be more conformant with the Linux coding style. The coding style actually prefers us not to use typedefs at all but this is considered a step too far for Trusted Firmware. This patch fixes a bug in the 'file_to_uuid()' function: it used to cause an exception by dereferencing a null pointer when a given UUID was not found in the UUID array. The fix is to delete the final null entry in the UUID array, which is not needed because the array is statically declared so its size is known at build time. If there is a request to open a file from FIP, and that file is not found, the driver fails to reset the offset address. This causes subsequent file loads to fail. The Firmware Image Package (FIP) driver allows for data to be loaded from a FIP on platform storage. The FVP supports loading bootloader images from a FIP located in NOR FLASH. The implemented FVP policy states that bootloader images will be loaded from a FIP in NOR FLASH if available and fall back to loading individual images from semi-hosting. NOTE: - BL3-3(e.g. UEFI) is loaded into DRAM and needs to be configured to run from the BL33_BASE address. This is currently set to DRAM_BASE+128MB for the FVP. The modified implementation uses the IO abstraction rather than making direct semi-hosting calls. The semi-hosting driver is now registered for the FVP platform during initialisation of each boot stage where it is used. Additionally, the FVP platform includes a straightforward implementation of 'plat_get_image_source' which provides a generic means for the 'load_image' function to determine how to access the image data. This is intended primarily for use as a storage abstraction. It allows operations such as image-loading to be implemented in a platform-independent fashion. Each platform registers a set of IO drivers during initialisation. The platform must also provide a function that will return a device and a specifier that can be used to access specified content. Clients of the API will primarily use device and entity handles. The term "entity" is deliberately vague, to allow for different representations of content accessed using different types of specifier, but will often be interpreted as a "file" where the specifier will normally be its path.
